Wiree

WiFi on the move:

Voice, Data and Locating Wireless Network technology for Smartphones, Tablets and Laptops moving at highway speeds

802.11g/n
Clients

Next-generation WiFi technology provides WiFi in-Motion for stock mobile devices (client) at highway speeds (> 150 km/h).

According to WiFi standard, by design, clients need to stop any data stream and then later re-associate to the next AP while moving from the coverage area of an Access Point to the next one. At slightly “faster than pedestrian” speeds, the long handover time between APs does not allow seamless connection.
Wiree reverses the paradigm of roaming: from client-oriented, handover mechanism becomes network-oriented; continuously evaluating client signal, the network decides the node which the client should be associated to.
This process is completely transparent to the client.
The result is that the client, moving from one cell to the next, appears connected always to the same AP. Re-association is not needed anymore by the client, thus obtaining a unique and continuous connection.
In Highway scenarios, vehicles can theoretically reach speeds up to 300 km/h* and multiple clients can transmit and receive significant amounts of data, exploiting MCS bitrates from 802.11n standard.
VoIP phone calls, audio, and HD video transmissions have been proven to work on a well-covered road area.

* "...The test results clearly demonstrated that if the appropriate MCS is selected in accordance to a specific Frequency Shift, a good and reliable communication link over a wide range of Frequency Shifts can be sustained in a vehicular network besides the sensitivity of OFDM symbols to Doppler Effect..." (cit. from Doppler Effect Analysis and Modulation Code Derivation - E.A Feukeu*, K Djouani, A Kurien)

Problem worth solving

WiFi standards, such as 802.11 a/b/g/n, by explicit design, allow very low, "less then pedestrian", speed roaming networks, preventing effective WiFi use in large deployments where client mobility can increase up to vehicular speeds.

Our solution

Enable WiFi highway scenarios for moving clients for time-sensitive applications such as VoIP, Video and Data, while providing Real-Time and historical client location, making WiFi standard clients a sort of animated, passive Motion Sensors.
